The much-anticipated Tiki Terrace in Prospect Heights (just outside Chicago) will be holding their Grand Opening celebration next week, starting Tuesday, November 8, and wrapping up on Saturday, November 12. Each evening has two seatings, at 6 p.m. and at 9 p.m., with free food, and entertainment from Barefoot Hawaiian. The “official” Tiki Central gathering is happening on Thursday, November 10. While Tiki Terrace will be a family-friendly restaurant, the special opening week events are adults-only. For those who can’t make it next week, on November 19 they will have a performance by 28-year-old ukulele master Jake Shimabukura, ticket information should be announced soon.

Shecky, designed by Tikifish
Today Hanford Lemoore announced a new Tiki Central Mug Design Contest. This is the first such contest since 2003, when Tikifish’s design for Shecky (seen at left) won the first Tiki Central Mug Design Contest. The winning design will be sculpted and produced by Munktiki. Entries are due by November 30, 2005, and each Tiki Central member can submit up to three designs. The winning mug design will be selected by Hanford Lemoore, Stuckie from Munktiki, and a selected panel of judges. The winner, in addition to getting some serious bragging rights, gets design concept credit and two free mugs. See full rules at Tiki Central.

Tiki Mug from Humuhumu’s Collection
A new feature for Ooga-Mooga: the Drink Matcher. Ooga-Mooga has always been able to tell you the right size drink for a mug, but now it’ll look through all of your collection, and tell you the right mug for the drink you want to make! For instance, this mug here is a perfect fit for a 6 oz. drink. It even takes into account ice & leaving a bit of room at the top.
Look for the Drink Matcher under My Collection, on the right sidebar of Ooga-Mooga.
