Mr. Bali Hai’s excellent blog, The Eye of the Goof, always offers up entertaining reading, but lately he’s really upped the ante by adding a whole page of Vintage Oceania. Three recent blog posts have given a little background to these intriguing images, which mostly come from old periodicals picked up in his never-ending hunt for cool stuff.

Mr. Bali Hai has also recently finished his home tiki bar (though we all know a home tiki bar is never truly finished, which is part of the fun of it). Balis’ Hai’deaway is a labor of love that includes furnishings and decor from Oceanic Arts, and Mr. Bali Hai’s alcohol ephemera collection was put to good use. It also features, naturally, his Bali Hi pinball machine.

Wow, thanks for all the linkage! For some reason, those ephemera pages have been particularly popular with Germans, but you’re the first North American site to link to them.

Ain’t it the truth. I spent most of yesterday hunting around thrift stores for old picture frames, then used them to mount a couple of those older, more fragile oceania illustrations, and rehung practically everything on the walls of the bar.
