Puka Bar in Long Beach Now Open

Filed under: Los Angeles, News, Tiki — Humuhumu @ 1:26 pm

The new tiki bar in Long Beach, the Puka Bar, opens tonight. It’s still mostly a mystery to me — as reported earlier, I know that Crazy Al Evans did some work there, but that’s about it — so my guess is as good as yours as to what it’s like.

Also, a report of another who-knows-how-tiki-it-is place, this one in West Hollywood. As reported in ALL CAPS by someone at Tiki Central, the Voodoo Room is “NEO TIKI” and “SMOKING HOT.” Couldn’t find any information online, but a quick Google of the address (8948 SANTA MONICA) gives me the impression that this is one of those cursed restaurant locations where a new place gives it a go every six months.

    the place is GREAT!
I’m kickin’ off the opening of the PUKA BAR with my 4th Annual ORiental Valentine Party TONIGHT (Sat, 11th)!!
The Tiki bar has a Large venue “hidden” through an archway that’s usually not open to the public, yet.Byron and Larry have been generous to let us use it again.
We’ve decorated it into an Opium Den-like atmosphere.
All you have to do is Bring an Asian dish (potluck), Dress in Oriental attire, and a few $ for the Band (Mark Torch (of Hollywood Combo) & friends).
The capacity is only 120 and we’ve got 82 confirmed responses, so come on down, quickly!

YOU HAVE GOT TO SEE THIS BAR. I KNOW WHAT IT LOOKED LIKE BEFORE IT WAS ‘TRANSFORMED INTO WHAT IT IS TODAY.’ WHAT A BEAUTIFUL ‘LOUNGE.’ GREAT ATMOSPHERE, NICE CROWD, GOOD DRINKS, WONDERFUL TO LOOK AT.

I agree with Mary! Family lives less than a mile away, saw the place before the transformation! It’s a great place to hang out with friends, meet new people, listen to the DJ and grab a drink! The Mai Tai’s are Phenomenal! You gotta try one!!!
