I haven't seen the tiki in Japan in person, but my understanding is that what's there is pretty awesome, especially the Trader Vic's in Tokyo. Hopefully we'll get to meet you this summer in Portland!

Tim, the best sources for info on the NW Tiki Crawl are the Tiki Kon website and Tiki Central, both linked in the above post.

Maui Melody and I will be looking forward to the Portland: Tiki Kon this summer. I have long been a fan of Tiki, and in the coming years hope to be one of the private homes on the Tiki Tour. One nice thing about Tiki bars is that I get a chance to wear some of my extensive collection of hawaiian shirts. We went to Thatch a couple weeks ago and had a great time. Our Japanese student was really thrilled as they have nothing like this in Japan. The drinks were first rate and the atmosphere delightful, but the poo-poo platter was a bit small. We stopped in at Pour, the owner's other restaurant to give him a critique. He seemed pleased that we sought him out. It has a small sign out front and even if you know where it is, you can easily miss it if you are driving. We look forward to meeting Portland's other Tiki fans! Adventurefred and Maui Melody.

Swanky that was just our concept, too! Also of course a play on the whole Kon Tiki thing, but some of us planners (ok, me and Craig) were Star Trek/Sci-fi con veterans and wanted to capture that same spirit. We just need to find tiki's Shatner...

They stole my name! Sort of... ;) I wanted Hukilau 2006 to be called Con Tiki as I suggested that the event be run more like a Sci Fi Con and have lots of lectures and things to do all day. Great minds...
