Sadly, the march of progress...er...marches on.

Something like this happened to the famous Taboo in Palm Beach, FL. Very posh location in a VERY posh city catering to a VERY posh clientele. To the people who owned it all that "kitsch" from the 60s was an embarrassment of epic proportions and it had to go.

So they neutered the place, keeping only the name. And now it's pretty indistinguishable from any other semi-upmarket restaurant in any semi-posh resort area.

The pieces will not do anything to replace the whole. Might as well auction off the decor. Putting it some other room will just be some stuff in another place. It is an era that is just gone. Giant, lavish, over the top architecture, the Supper Club. It is just not cost effective and really it is a wonder any places like this exist today. Especially where it is. The Kahiki was in a "low rent" area and that maybe kept it around a while longer... Sad. I will likely never get to see it. I won't be able to truly visit California until next August...
